What Is The Best Martial Art For Self Defense

“What Is The Best Martial Art For Self Defense?”

This is a question that I have heard asked many times.

I have also seen this asked in many forums and discussion groups.

But is it a misleading one?

Studying the martial arts is of course a valuable thing to do.

I’ve done it myself for many years.

But does being proficient in a martial art also mean that you are proficient in self-defense?

And does being a black belt in a martial art also mean that you are ‘qualified’ or competent to teach self-defense.

The answer to which is no.

Teaching self defense is a completely different discipline.

Martial arts are (in the main) about form over function.

Self Defense however, is about function over form.

What I mean by that is that it doesn’t matter if it looks good or not.

It just has to work.

Self defense should also be combined with other things, such as situational awareness to help you spot and avoid the risk in the first place.

It should also be combined with knife and edged weapon awareness, because of the risks these pose in today’s society.

If you’d like to learn some practical and functional self-defense skills combined with situational awareness and edged weapon awareness training taught by two very experienced and competent people then click on the link below.
