Why You Don’t Need To be Perfect To Be An Exceptional Instructor
Many people who want to be an instructor keep putting it off on the basis that they are not ready.
They think that they need to know everything and be 100% perfect.
But they are wrong.
You see, perfectionism creates procrastination.
And I’ll say that again ……
Being a perfectionist creates procrastination!
Perfectionists work to a ‘Ready, Aim, Fire’ type of thinking.
Everything has to be in place and be 100% perfect before they feel ready.
They need to have all of the experience they can get and as many certificates as they can collect before they think they are ready.
And they need to be told that they are ready by someone else.
I spoke to a martial artist some years ago at a marketing training session I was running.
He told me that he had spent 15 years and approximately £25,000 on his martial arts training to date, but (according to him) he wasn’t ready to be an instructor yet because his instructor (sensi) hadn’t said he was ready!
Let’s put this into perspective shall we.
RAF fighter pilot training (to get their pilot wings) takes 72 weeks and costs up to £4 million per pilot trained.
Can you imagine if the RAF put you through £4 million pounds worth of training and you said you weren’t ready!
Something would hit the fan!
How long will you continue to put off following your passion ….. and at what cost to you?
Forget the ‘Ready, Aim, Fire approach!
People who achieve actually work to a ‘Ready, Fire, Aim’ methodology!
They simply get on with it and then tweak it until it is right.
And lets face it, you’ll never be 100% ready so why put off being an exceptional instructor.
The fact is you will learn more by teaching then from being taught!
So why wait?
Progress not perfection should be your mantra.
Take a leaf out of Nike’s slogan and ‘Just Do It’!
One day you will look back on your life and I want you to look back to a life fulfilled.
A life with no regrets.
But I do understand why you may hesitate.
You may worry about making mistakes.
You may worry about what other people think or say about you if you get something wrong.
And this is where we can help you.
When you train with us to become a Restraint or Self-Defence Instructor we provide you with all of the documentation you need to start delivering your training.
We provide you with:
1. Lesson plans to follow,
2. Powerpoint presentations to use;
3. Student manuals;
4. Student workbooks;
5. Trainer answer sheets (to help you mark the workbooks);
6. Company policies;
7. Ongoing support and help.
In short, we provide you with everything you need as well as a simple step-by-step approach to delivering your training.
This reduces the risk of you making a mistake.
Also, some training providers are very restrictive about where and who you can teach.
They restrict your ability to teach by only allowing you to teach within certain organisations.
But with us you can teach who you like, where you like and when you like!
There are no restrictions.
Think about this for a moment.
If you went to buy a car and the dealership said that you could only drive that car in your area and not go outside of it would you still buy it?
Of course not.
These restrictions are a throwback to an archaic (old fashioned) method of control.
Probably motivated by the fear that if they let you train anywhere you may ‘steal’ their business.
But I want you to be successful.
I want you to have the freedom to train who you like, where you like and whenever you like.
And we’ll even help and support you to do that.
You see I learned something a long time ago.
It was something a guy called Zig Ziglar said, which was:
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
That is why we are so different from any other training provider out there.
