Jim Snipe
Jim has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. He has predominantly worked in secure units / locked wards with individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability and forensic histories in the UK.
Now based in Australia, he initially worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the High Dependency unit of an inpatient mental health unit. He currently works as the lead trainer/advisor in the management of aggression and violence at a large Metropolitan hospital in Melbourne.
To date, he has personally trained over 3500 staff in a course he designed himself.
Jim has also worked as a prison officer and in the security industry and has numerous qualifications in teaching and education, conflict management, physical and mechanical restraints, drug and alcohol, and security risk management.
He is the Australian and New Zealand training representative for NFPS.
During his career he has been trained in 12 different models of aggression management and a licensed trainer of 3 of the models.
Outside of his main work, he has his own training consultancy business specialising in the management of aggression and violence and currently delivers training to undergraduate medical students, private hospitals and the largest security provider in New Zealand.
He has presented and chaired at national and international conferences on the subjects of aggression and violence management and psychological and medical implications of physical restraints.
He also lectures at RMIT University.
Jim has also provided advice to various private and public organisations on restraint implications.
Jim initially became involved with NFPS when he chose them from many others to undertake CPD that he believes is paramount for all trainers to undertake and maintain. Covid aside, he has flown back to the UK annually to train and teach with NFPS.
