Thinking of Attending a Level 3 Physical Intervention Trainer Course? - Read This Personal Letter From The Desk of Trevel Henry First

“Dear Friend,

Thank you for visiting our page and for your interest in becoming attending a Level 3 Physical Intervention Trainer Course.

We obviously run level 3 physical intervention training courses I would love for you to make the decision to join our level 3 physical intervention trainer course. But at this point I am not interested in is in trying to sell you a level 3 physical intervention trainer course (and that may sound strange, but please bear with me for a minute or two so that I can explain why).

I am actually more interested to know why you want to attend a level 3 physical intervention trainer course. This is because I want to make sure that you make the right decision for you. And if that means that what you want isn’t what you actually need, I will be honest and upfront and tell you, so that you do not waste your precious time and hard earned cash.

Now, you are probably thinking to yourself “Why would this guy do that? What’s the catch?”.

Well firstly, there is no catch. I genuinely and sincerely want to make sure that attending a level 3 physical intervention trainer course is the right choice for you.

Secondly, if you do decide to train with us then I will be one-hundred percent committed to be there for you. That means we will be there for you when you need us to help and support you long after the training has ended. That takes a lot of investment of time, money and resources on our part so that’s why it’s important to find out if we are a good fit for each other.

Starting your journey as a level 3 physical intervention trainer may be a daunting one for you. I know, because I’ve been where you probably are now. I can remember the problems I had in trying to decide what would be the best level 3 physical intervention trainer course to do, who I should train with etc. And one question that I always had at the forefront of my mind was ‘what happens if I pay all that money and I realise that I’ve made the wrong decision?’

I also know that a lot of training providers will be all to quick to tell you that their level 3 physical intervention trainer course is the best. This is primarily because they want to flog you a place on their course. And I get that because they have a business to run. But that’s not how we run our business.

Also, be very careful about who you take advice from! Some people take business advice from people who have never run a successful business. That’s like taking driving lessons from someone who has never driven a car! Now that may sound perverse, but so many people do just that. They take advice from friends and colleagues (and even family) who (although well-meaning) may not be best qualified to advise you.

I learned something that has been of benefit to me in my journey and it is this: “if you want to succeed and be the best, in any walk of life, find someone who has already succeeded and who is the best at what they do, and learn from them”. Quite simple really.

This is where we are different. I’m not just in the ‘level 3 physical intervention trainer course business’, we are in the business of relationships, of helping, supporting and enabling others. I want you to be the best at what you intend to do. I actually (genuinely) care about you, what you want to achieve and why you want to achieve it. I want to help you live life on your own terms, so that you can give yourself and your family the freedom you all desire and deserve; such as the freedom to live where you wish, spend more time with your family, follow a passion you love and live without any regret.

We are committed to helping you and this is why we provide everyone, who enrols on our level 3 physical intervention trainer course with us with as much support and help as possible. For example, we run a Closed NFPS Trainers Only Group and a Closed Coaching and Mentoring Group on Facebook, where you can learn more about the industry, marketing and mindset strategies we use that have allowed our business to grow and survive the worst two crises in the last thirty years’: the recession in 2000 – 2001 and the financial and housing crisis in 2007 – 2008; we also thrived during the Covid 19 pandemic.

The benefit to you in all of this is that we have been running level 3 physical intervention trainer courses for almost thirty years and we’ll be here for you in the future. That means that any investment you make with us is not going to be lost.

However, we also realise, and appreciate, that our approach is not for everyone.

So, if you are someone who is only interested in a level 3 physical intervention trainer certificate or the cheapest priced level 3 physical intervention trainer course, then sadly we are not the right fit for you. But there are plenty of other organisations out there that I am sure will provide that level of service for you.

However, if you are that someone who is seriously looking for a lifelong relationship with an organisation that genuinely cares for the people it trains. That will give you all of the help, support and guidance you need to grow and develop as a level 3 physical intervention trainer or your physical intervention training business, and help you achieve the freedom you truly deserve, then we are probably a good fit for each other.

Here’s what I suggest. Let’s schedule a phone call or a video call over Zoom or Skype to discuss how to get you from where you are now to where you want to be. This way you will have the opportunity to ask me anything and I get the opportunity to speak to you in person, get to know you a little better, help you to identify what your goals are and help you move more efficiently and effectively towards them.

This process has helped so many people make the right decision and also avoids making costly wrong ones.

There is absolutely no obligation on your part to commit to anything (and I give you my word that I will not attempt to sell you a place on our level 3 physical intervention trainer course). What I will do is clear up any confusion for you, give you the advice you need and at least give you a clear idea of what you need to do and what you should avoid doing, to help you achieve your desired goals.

Now if you are still wondering “Why would this guy I’ve never met do this for me? What’s the catch?”, I can assure you that all I want to do is demonstrate to you why we are different from all of the other companies that run level 3 physical intervention trainer courses out there and the best way for me to do that for you is by helping you, because that’s what my true passion is.

Then maybe, at some stage in the future, if and when you decide that you do want to attend a level 3 physical intervention trainer course with someone, I’d like you to consider us as that someone. That’s it! And think about this for a minute…… you would never buy a car without test driving it first, so why don’t you take up the offer of test driving us (so to speak)?

To arrange your strategy call with me simply complete the form at the bottom of this page and let’s start you on your journey to where you want to get to.

In the meanwhile, please look at the rest of the information on this page about what our level 3 physical intervention trainer course involves. It will show you where it is held and also look at the reviews we get, especially what others who have trained with us actually say about us.

Then, when you are ready for a strategy call, get in touch and let’s arrange that for you.

Best Regards

Trevel Henry

PS: A lot of people also ask us What is The Difference Between Control and Restraint, PMVA, MVA, Positive Handling, Physical Restraint, Physical Intervention and Care and Control Training?” This blog post explains – https://nfps.info/what-is-the-difference-between-control-and-restraint-pmva-mva-positive-handling-physical-restraint-physical-intervention-and-care-and-control-training/

PS: Check out these post below to see what I mean ….

What is The Difference Between Control and Restraint, PMVA, MVA, Positive Handling, Physical Restraint, Physical Intervention and Care and Control Training?

One of the most frequently asked questions  people also ask us is What is The Difference Between Control and Restraint, PMVA, MVA, Positive Handling, Physical Restraint, Physical Intervention and Care and Control Training?”

The video on the right will answer that question for you because at the end of the day, no matter what you call it, when we restrict someone’s liberty we have in effect restrained someone.

I hope you find the video useful and feel free to share this page if you feel it may help others.

Gain A Massive Advantage Over Your Competition By Being Able To Deliver Physical Intervention Training That Is More Legally Defensible Than The Rest

A major benefit for you when you enrol on our level 3 physical intervention trainer course is that you will receive training that is legally defensible.

You will see and hear from some of the greatest legal minds in this country, such as: Michael Mansfield QC, Gary Slapper, John Wadham, and of course the indomitable Eric Baskind (who has carried out over 4,000 expert witness reports for court, so he certainly knows what he’s talking about).

It covers every aspect of law that you need to know about as a qualified and competent level 3 physical intervention trainer. This means that you can run your physical intervention training courses safely in the knowledge and with confidence that what you are saying is legally correct.

If you consider that these eminent legal professional charge a minimum of £250 – £500 an hour, you will be receiving thousands of pounds of legal training absolutely free.

Over the years we have spent tens of thousands of pounds interviewing and gaining input some of the most eminent lawyers in the UK to ensure that you receive the most legally accurate training available, which means that you can be better than your competition.

Learn To Run Your Physical Intervention Training Courses Safely!

Delivering physical intervention training courses also comes with it’s risks and because of the nature of the activity. People can get injured if the training isn’t supervised and run safely and that can end up with a trainer being sued for negligence – but don’t worry, that won’t be you!

In almost thirty years of running physical intervention trainer courses we have never been prosecuted or sued. This is because of our professional approach to managing the risks associated with physical intervention training, and on our course you will learn how to reduce that risk to you too.

You will also receive copies of all of our physical intervention training risk assessments in your training material that have been developed and checked by health and safety professionals.

This means that you will have a safe system of work and safe working practices to follow. These are already clearly laid out for you and we will take you through them on the course.

We will also give you all of the documentation that you will need to deliver your physical intervention training courses in a safe and professional manner. This will significantly reduce the risk of someone being injured during your training, therefore massively reducing the risk of your being sued for negligence in the courts.

In short, you don’t have to produce anything. It’s all done for you. This saves you a massive amount of time and money in figuring out what to do, finding someone who is properly qualified and competent to do it, waiting for the work to be completed and paying them for the work done.

When you consider that the hourly rate which organisations have to pay the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) if they are found to be in material breach of health and safety laws has increased from the 6th April 2019 from £129 to £154 per hour, you can imagine the expense.

Based on those figures, a forty hour investigation would cost you £6,160.00 – not including any fines, prosecutions charges and court costs.

Teach Physical Intervention Techniques That Have Been Medically Reviewed

When you enrol on our level 3 physical intervention trainer course you will receive has also been medically reviewed by Dr. Tony Bleetman. Tony is one of the preferred Home Office medical specialists in the use of physical intervention. He has been involved in numerous cases of physical intervention related injury and death and he currently reviews physical intervention trainer courses all over the world.

What this means is that the physical intervention techniques that you will be taught (and which you will go on to teach to your students) have been medically reviewed by one of the most respected medical professionals in the UK today.

Also, if you’re looking to run physical intervention training courses for staff who work with children and young people, the new guidance states that the training you provide and the techniques that you are going to be offering, must be fit for purpose with children and young people and there must be a medical review to support that.

People Are Still Dying During Physical Intervention Because of Poor Training and Outdated Physical Intervention Techniques - Don't Be The One Who Teaches Them!

I’m sure that you will have seen the death of George Lloyd, who was killed by a police officer in the USA, who knelt on his neck for over nine minutes.

Positional asphyxia is a common reason why people die during physical intervention and the UK has had its share of restraint related deaths too. One of the main reasons is because some physical intervention training courses are still teaching certain physical intervention techniques that increase the risk of death. As an expert witness I have also been involved in providing evidence in court cases where people have died during a physical intervention.

Imagine for a moment getting a call to say that someone you have trained has used the physical intervention techniques you taught them and the person they restrained has died. Just stop and think for a moment of how you would feel if you got that call and the thoughts that will be running through your head. Imagine having to go to court and be cross examined by a barrister whose only job is to win the case by discrediting you. And it’s not just going to Court that will cause you and your family immense stress and worry. It will be the build up to that day, because it can take years for a case to get to court and all that time you will have to live with that uncertainty.

I am proud of the fact that we have (in many cases) led the field in reducing this risk and this is why the training that you will receive covers this topic in depth. It is fully up to date with the medical, legal and scientific evidence on what is likely to cause a restraint related death. Our physical intervention trainer course covers what positions are more dangerous than others (and that may not be what you think) and how a death can easily be prevented.

I never want you to be in a position like the one I have described above. This is because I have seen first hand. I’ve seen what it does to good people, many just like you. This is why you will receive the best physical intervention training based on the world leading research produced by expert medical professionals and leading lawyers and scientists.

This module alone will provide you with all of the information and knowledge you need to ensure that you are providing physical intervention training and giving advice that is going to keep people safe ….. and not kill them!

In this module you will get access to a complete lecture from Dr. John Parkes who has carried out ground breaking research into physical intervention positions and lung function.

His scientific research blows away the myths and misconceptions relating to positional asphyxia and shows you exactly which physical intervention positions are the most dangerous.

This module is invaluable because it helps save lives.

Companies are currently being fined millions of pounds for deaths in the workplace and if found guilty you can also receive a prison sentence.

But, when you enrol on our level 3 physical intervention trainer course the risk of that is absolutely minimal to you. This is because you will be trained by experts who have worked on many physical intervention related death cases. They will teach you first-hand what needs to be done to prevent a physical intervention related death.

Is This BTEC Level 3 Award Physical Intervention Trainer Course Suitable For You?

And, even if you are a trainer with a different organisation, adding this qualification to your CPD (Continual Professional Development) record would be a great thing to do to help enhance your knowledge whilst gaining valuable CPD points.

But it is so much more than that ……….

The Five-Day Attendance Part

The attendance part of the course covers Units 2 and 3 which are the ‘Physical Skill Instruction’ [Unit 2] and the ‘Delivering Physical Restraint Training Sessions’ [Unit 3] of the Award.

As part of this Unit you will be expected to demonstrate your ability to:

  1. Instruct others in the least restrictive methods of physical intervention.
  2. Demonstrate how to work effectively as part of a restraint team.
  3. Demonstrate various low-level techniques to hold and support a person in a seated position.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate de-escalation techniques from a standing and a seated position.
  5. Explain the difference between least restrictive methods and more restrictive methods of control.
  6. Demonstrate techniques to hold and support a person in a standing position.
  7. Demonstrate how to de-escalate restraint from a restrictive to a least restrictive technique.
  8. Demonstrate how to effectively move someone off the floor to a safer position.

  11. Demonstrate the use of appropriate skills to defend against strangles, chokes and bites.

To help you with this, we provide you with a current up to date manual, checklist and good tutor to learner ratios so that we can provide you with adequate supervision and instruction.

What If I Fail?

This is a common question I get asked a lot and here is my answer. Because we take so much time in ensuring whether this course is the right fit for you or not and because we are 100% committed to you successfully passing this course, the risk of you failing is almost non-existent.

My trainers and I are fully committed to working with you to ensure that we work in partnership with you.

To this end we will provide you with any feedback to any pre-course work that you submit if required, to enable you to make the necessary changes to correct any wrong answers, until they are correct and we will continue to do that until it is correct and this can be done by phone, zoom or skype.

On the course we ensure that our instructor to student ratio is adequate enough so that you work in small and intimate groups. Thus way we all get to know each other and work towards one primary goal, which is to get you through the course successfully, so that you leave with the qualification/s you need.

I'm Dyslexic - Does That Matter?

Absolutely not. We are an equal opportunities provider and we will make every reasonable adjustment to help you in any way we can. If you need any help and support we are 100% there for you. Remember this, some of the most successful people that ever lived were dyslexic, so dyslexia is not a barrier that will prevent you from passing this physical intervention trainer course.

Will I Get 'Beasted'?

This is another common question that we get asked and the answer is NO, absolutely not.

Our level 3 physical intervention trainer courses are professionally run and aimed at individuals like you, who are seeking to become professionally competent in the field of Physical Intervention Training – Not ‘Unarmed Combat’.

The physical intervention training is structured around a well tested and quality managed coaching model. It is aimed at providing mature and professional people like yourself with a competent and professionally structured physical intervention training programme of achievement suitable to meet your needs.

We are aware that some of the more general type training providers still run military ‘boot-camp’ style warm up sessions, but we do not do that at all because there is simply no requirement for it.

Let’s face it, you’re not going to get the chance to ‘warm up’ in a real situation are you?

Our warm up is suitable for people of all ages and abilities and has been put together by a properly qualified and competent sports professional, who is also one of our team members.

What Level Of Fitness Is Required and Am I Too Old?

The course does require you to be in reasonable physical condition, as you will be expected to undertake and teach physical skills.

We do not expect you to be a paragon of fitness but simply have the physical capability to undertake the activity and to be able to instruct the activity.

Therefore, if you do have any physical impairment which you feel may compromise your ability to undertake the course, please seek the advice of a medical professional before attending.

This is not to say you can’t undertake the training. We have had people successfully complete the course who have prosthetic limbs and who are visually impaired. In short, we will do everything within our power to help you and we will most certainly not discriminate against you.

If you have any concerns simply pick up the phone and give us a call or drop us an email.

Age is also no barrier to learning.

In fact we recently did a survey of everyone who trained with us over the past few years and we found that the average age of people choosing to train with us is approximately 42.

This is not to say that if you are any older or any younger you will not fit in because everyone is made welcome.

In fact the age range of people training with us is from mid 20’s up to late 50’s and early 60’s.

I'f You Are Nervous and/or a Female And Read The Following & Watch The Videos Below

We have had lots of females attend our courses over the years and we do understand how it can be for a woman entering what could be perceived as a male dominated environment.

Therefore, we do everything we can to make our female friends welcome and at ease.

This industry needs more female trainers and we will look after you as the testimonial from Amanda shows opposite and if you are a prospective female trainer check out the video reviews below.

Our Level 3 Physical Intervention Trainer Course Is Easy To Learn,
Easy To Remember and Easy To Teach

We have also had an independent review of our physical intervention trainer course undertaken by Southampton University on behalf of the Priory Group, who were one of our large healthcare clients and an extract from the survey is as follows:

“Since moving over to the NFPS system of work we have managed to achieve all of the above points – as well as providing training that keeps our clients and staff safe, a major benefit has seen indirect and direct cost savings.

In addition, we also reduced the number of techniques now taught to staff from 137 to only 7. This is important in that if something is easy to learn it can be easily taught, and, more importantly, easily recalled when required in situations of high emotional arousal.

Recently we conducted an independent comparative survey of the new NFPS system against the previous system used. The research project was undertaken by the University of Southampton and the aim of the report was to ensure that the NFPS system of work is acceptable clinically, ethically and legally.

The findings from the survey were as follows:

1. The training provided by NFPS Ltd is consistent with all of the legal requirements for training that the Priory is expected to comply with, such as: the Mental Health Act [2007], the NHS paper ‘Proposed Standards for Training in the Prevention and Therapeutic Management of Violence in Adult Mental Health Settings [2003] and the Mental Health Act Code of Practice [2008], NICE Guidance [2005], the Care Quality Commission [2009] guidance that highlights staff support, appropriate training, safer services for patients and investment in the workforce with regard to their wellbeing and safety.

2. With regard to the use of force with children and young people, the training provided by NFPS Ltd complies with all of the legislative requirements and is consistent with the following legislation: The Children Act 1989, The United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child, The Education and Inspections Act 2007 and the relevant guidance issued by various Government departments.

3. The training provided by NFPS Ltd is also compliant with all of the relevant statutory requirements in relation to the use of physical force including; Common and Criminal Law and the Human Rights Act 1998.

4. In addition, the training provided by NFPS Ltd meets all of the Health and Safety legislative requirements, including techniques which are developed and assessed for risk consistent with the Manual Handling Regulations 1992.

5. The seven techniques provided by the NFPS system of work provide sufficient restriction of patients to prevent aggressive or violent behaviour and were suitable across all clinical areas that the Priory, including Secure Services, Adults, Adolescents, Acute Services and Eating Disorders.

6. The staff feel supported and able to cope with the circumstances that may arise in all of the service areas because of the simplicity of the techniques and the legal and ethical underpinning the NFPS system of work provides.

7. All staff that took part in the survey confirmed that the training they receive is easier to work with than the previous system of work used.

The one thing that makes NFPS Ltd stand out is the ongoing support we get. If any advice is needed Mark Dawes is only a phone call or an e-mail away and we are able to call upon him at any time to assist us in any issue that we feel we require his input into – and most of this is done at no additional cost.

The training style used by NFPS is brilliant. Unlike some providers, it is not demonstrative or autocratic. It is totally inclusive. Learners on courses are made to feel very welcome and put at ease right from the start and I think this is because Mark knows his subject inside-out.

What Does That Mean?

What this means is, that there is nothing difficult for you to learn and why should there be?

The concern you may have is that you may have been taught a complex system in your past that involved multi-move components, that you had to remember along with lots of strange (made up) names for certain techniques? If you have, then you can put your concern to bed right now.

We will not, for example, ask you to stand on your ‘platform whilst using a ‘single motor reflex under-hand grip’ with your left hand, while your ‘right hand supports the rear quarter triceps muscle in a reverse underhand ploughing technique, while all the time making sure your backside points to the north at an approximate angle of 35 degrees!’

You will not have to learn complex names for every technique or be able to show that you can break each technique down into different component parts (that is seriously old 1970’s and 1980’s teaching).

Our method of physical intervention instruction is easy because we understand that teaching and instruction isn’t just about what we know. It’s about helping people achieve in the most simple yet efficient way and with little or no complexity.

This is our ‘secret sauce’ (so to speak) and it will literally blow your mind whilst improving your confidence and self-esteem!

So, if you simply want to learn and teach a common sense approach to teaching physical intervention then you have definitely come to the right place.

The aim of our physical intervention trainer course is to qualify you as a physical intervention instructor. And we can help you achieve that much more easily by removing all the unnecessary baggage and only teaching you what is necessary.

This is how we can train you as a physical intervention trainer with a BTEC Level 3 Restraint Instructor Award qualification in 5 days, as the two videos below highlight.

This is an extract from a video interview with Trevel Henry who asked me how we managed to run a Level 3 Physical Intervention Trainer Course in 5 Days.

This is a video testimonial from Palkesh Darbar who had, before training with us, been trained on a three-week course.

You Can Also Take Additional BTEC Awards Whilst On The Course

Another major benefit in training with us is that you can take multiple Awards when you train with us, too.

This means you can come on one course and leave with all the qualifications you need to enable you to actually operate as a physical intervention instructor or even set up your own business.
