In this current Covid-19 pandemic the scientific advice from all of the experts is to stay at home and only go out for essential food and medicine.
The virus can only spread if it is passed on from one infected person to another.
However, many people are finding this restriction of liberty hard to cope with.
Some are still going out unnecessarily, and with better weather forecasted to come, I am sure that the urge to go to the beach or take a walk in the woods will be a temptation that many will find it hard to resist.
But the fact is that doing that can put others at risk and many more people will unnecessarily die.
Furthermore, being isolated for a long period can have an impact on a person’s mental health.
Long-term isolation even increases the risk of premature death and it can have profound physical and psychological effects.
People who are more isolated and lonely show increased chronic inflammation, which has been implicated in a variety of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular function like blood pressure and heart rate.
But here’s the good news!
There is something that you CAN do at home, while isolated that can improve your physical and mental health, strengthen your immune system, lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Meditation is an ancient practice that
1. Reduces Stress
2. Controls Anxiety
3. Promotes Emotional Health and Well-Being
4. Enhances Self-Awareness
5. Lengthens Attention Span
6. Can Decrease Blood Pressure
7. Can Reduce Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
8. Creates More Immunity To Disease
9. Reduces Depression
10. Builds Resilience to Pain
You can even take your mind ‘down to the beach’ or for a ‘walk in the woods’ and receive the same benefit as if you were actually there in person.
And you don’t even need to sit in an uncomfortable position with your eyes closed for hours on end! You can meditate whilst sat in your favourite chair, lying in bed, sitting in the garden and even while doing everyday chores like cooking, washing up, cleaning, ironing, etc.
I have a Free Mp3 entitled ‘Tactical Muscle Relaxation’ which is a 14 minute audio on how to relax.
It has no religious or spiritual context to it. It is just a very simple way of achieving a deep relaxed state that you can do daily.

I also hope it helps those of you working in the NHS and care and the other uniformed services who (at this current time) are working flat out and don’t even have the time for proper breaks.
Please feel free to download and find yourself a quiet spot for 14 minutes so that you can put your headphones on and have a break.
