Make Money Teaching Breakaway and Self Defence, Gain a Recognised Qualification And Offer Recognised Qualifications To Your Students.

Living through this pandemic has made many of us reflect on our lives and focus on what is really important to us. I was just talking to someone yesterday who told me that prior to this pandemic their ‘escape’ was shopping, but now they have been able to focus on what is really important to them and even the thought of going shopping to buy ‘nice things’ doesn’t interest them at all.

In short, they have come to realise that material wealth doesn’t make them happy. It gives momentary pleasure, but not happiness.

I was fortunate enough to figure this out many years ago when I gave up the corporate life to teach self-defence and conflict management.

The reason I did this was because I get massive satisfaction from helping people and by teaching self-defence it not only helps them stay safe, it helps improve their confidence, self-esteem and self worth. In short, it can literally change lives as has been reported in numerous studies.

You Can’t Take Away A Person’s Right To Defend Themselves at Work

In one case I reported on recently a worker who was dismissed for defending himself and others in the workplace won his unfair dismissal case and was awarded £42,000 in damages and the reason is your rights to stay safe and exercise your right to self-defence extend into your workplace too and employers know that.

As a result we are seeing an increase in requests for staff training, particularly in breakaway and self-defence so there is an opportunity right now to take advantage of this growing market by doing something very worthwhile and generating an additional income stream to your existing business.

And if you don’t have an existing business then why not consider setting up your own business teaching self defence? We can help you there and we give you everything you need to start setting up and running your own breakaway and self-defence courses.

It’s All Tax Deductible

And (and this is the bit I like) it’s completely tax deductible!

Any business expense, including the cost of your training, is tax deductible. Now I’m not a registered financial advisor or an accountant so I can’t give tax advice, but you can even claim any part time business expenses back if you are PAYE.

That means if you are currently employed and paying tax on your salary, you can set up a part-time business and claim back any training costs from the tax that is deducted from your salary via a tax rebate. That’s what I did when I started my business.

I was in a job when I decided to start teaching self-defence so I set up a part-time business and claimed all of my business expenses back as ‘tax deductible expenses’. These were things like training courses, equipment, computers, stationary, telephones, travelling expenses, etc. Even one room of my house that I set up as my office allowed me to claim back a percentage of my household bills (electricity, phone lines, heating, etc.).

So at the end of the year when I submitted my tax return I got a tax rebate!

Why Not Join Our Next Course?

Now we have a BTEC Level 3 Breakaway & Self-Defence Trainer Course running on the 24th and 25th April with a few places left on it.

And when you train with us you will get everything you need to help you set up and run your own self-defence courses. You will even be able to offer your students a BTEC Level 2 Award in Breakaway & Self-Defence, which gives you a market advantage over others who can’t do that.

And as we start to exit lockdown and come out of the other side of this pandemic there will be a need for untrained staff and/or staff who have not renewed or refreshed their training to be trained.

So if you are interested in attending our next course then go to this web-page and book your place – https://nfps.info/self-defence-trainer-training-april-2021/.

Or, if you have any questions that you’d like to discuss with me then lets set a time and date for a chat over the phone or Zoom. I’d be more than happy to do that for you.

The Rocking Chair Exercise

Many years ago I took the decision to start teaching self defence. It was a daunting one and I had the usual worries running through my head like: “what if it doesn’t work”, “what if I fail”, etc, etc. But I was driven by a desire to help people, to do something to keep people safe. And luckily for me that drive was stronger than those niggling worries I had.

One thing I can remember doing was something called a ‘rocking chair’ exercise. Basically what I did was imagine that I was a retired old man sitting in a rocking chair looking back on my life and deciding whether or not I had any regrets about any decisions I had made during my life. That one exercise made me realise that if I didn’t at least try, that would be the biggest regret ever.

And if I could go back in time thirty years and find the me that made the decision to start teaching self-defence I thank that younger me for it and shake him by the hand because that one step allowed me to turn my passion into a full time business.

Has it always been easy? No. Have I had doubts along the way? Absolutely. But I have no regrets and now I wish the same for you.
